Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Ideas

Instead of one big ask from your organization, each participant sets up their own fundraising page and asks their own network for support. Walk-a-thons and endurance challenges are the classic version, but the format works for a lot more than that.

How this fundraiser actually works

Pick a platform that lets each participant create their own personal page under one shared campaign, Classy and Funraise are common choices, and set an overall team goal so individual pages roll up into it. A little friendly competition between participants usually helps.

Participants who set a personal goal and email or text a handful of people directly raise far more than the ones who just post a link once and move on. Give people a short script for that first ask, most people don’t fundraise for a living and freeze up without one.

Peer-to-peer only works if your participants actually reach out to people. If you sign up 30 people and 25 of them never send a single message, you’ll end up with a page listing 30 names and almost no money. This takes real coaching, not just registration, reminders, a leaderboard, maybe a small incentive for the top few fundraisers, to get people to actually ask.

Want a fundraiser that doesn’t depend on 30 people all following through?

A raffle just needs you to sell tickets, not corral a team of individual fundraisers into actually asking. See why a raffle is usually the best idea on this list, or jump straight in.
